Ukraine should reach NATO security standards by 2020 - Rada speaker

KYIV. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Cooperation between Ukraine and NATO should be raised to a new level, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chair Andriy Parubiy said.

"I am confident that cooperation between the alliance and Ukraine can and should reach a new level," Parubiy said during joint committee hearings called "Bringing Ukraine Closer to NATO Standards" in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"Today, Ukraine can act not as merely a candidate and not just ask to be admitted to NATO, but can be a reliable and staunch ally for NATO," he said.

Ukraine should fulfill its obligations and reach NATO's security standards before 2020, Parubiy said.

The parliament firmly and consistently advocates Ukraine's accession to NATO, he said.
