SOCHI. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Russia's careful and balanced actions in Syria can serve as a model of behavior on the international arena, and these efforts undertaken by Moscow have already produced some results, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"The Syrian experience shows precisely that there can be an alternative to an overconfident and destructive policy [that some countries pursue in the Middle East]. Russia is opposing terrorists along with the legitimate Syrian government and other countries in the region, and it is acting based on international law," Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club on Thursday.
"These actions, these positive shifts do not come easy for us: there are a lot of disagreements in the region," he said.
"But we have armed ourselves with patience, and having this patience, weighing each of our steps and each of our words, we are working very carefully with all parties involved in this process, respecting their interests," Putin said.
"And, to speak cautiously, our efforts, whose productiveness our partners questioned just recently, inspire us with hope today. They've proven to be very important, correct, professional, and timely," he said.
