Putin reaffirms Russia's striving for nuclear disarmament

SOCHI. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Russia is calling for universal nuclear disarmament, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"To a question whether or not nuclear disarmament is possible, I will say yes, it is possible. Whether or not Russia wants universal nuclear disarmament, the answer is also affirmative, yes, it does want [this] and will seek this," Putin said at a meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

At the same time, Russia will be following the development of other types of weapons by other countries, which are in no way inferior to nuclear weapons, he said.

Russia is also ready to introduce new weapon systems with non-nuclear munitions, the president also said.
