MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Thousands of civilians have died in the United States-led coalition's air strikes of Syria's Raqqa, the city has been destroyed, Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Gen. Maj. Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.
"Raqqa has suffered the fate of Dresden, which was been wiped off the face of the earth by British-U.S. aerial bombings in 1945," he said.
"Then by what is dictated such a hurry of the Western capitals in targeted funding of assistance to Raqqa alone? The only thing remains, the desire to cover up as soon as possible the U.S. aviation's and the 'coalition's' barbaric bombings, which buried thousands of civilians 'liberated' from ISIL in the ruins of Raqqa," Konashenkov said.
ISIL is a terrorist group banned in Russia.
