N. Korean fishermen driven ashore in Primorye sent home

VLADIVOSTOK. Oct 23 (Interfax) - The North Korean fishermen whose boat was driven ashore near the town of Dunai in Russia's Primorye Territory last weekend have been sent home, the Federal Security Service's (FSB) department in the Primorye Territory said on Monday.

"Officers of the FSB's department in the Primorye Territory detained citizens of the neighboring country for questioning. Considering the circumstances of force majeure, the North Korean fishermen were sent home on Monday," the department said.

The old boat was simply unable to resist the high winds and eventually washed ashore in Russia, the department said.

It was reported earlier with citations from the local press that the North Korean boat was driven ashore in Sysoyev Bay near the town of Dunai in the Primorye Territory.

The Koreans had been drifting in the high seas for over a week before their boat was driven ashore in the restricted area in Sysoyev Bay. They decided to look around and started wandering unsuspectingly around the guarded facility. They were detained by FSB officers.
