BRUSSELS. Oct 26 (Interfax) - A new U.S. strategy on Afghanistan undermines political settlement prospects there, and there are obvious negative aspects in it, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan, said.
"Frankly speaking, we in Moscow tried to find new elements in this strategy, but we couldn't do that yet. But negative aspects of such a strategy are absolutely clear to us," Kabulov said at a press conference following a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council in Brussels on Thursday.
"When Taliban members are being told they are going to be killed, they certainly lose any wish to conduct a political process. In other words, this new strategy is undermining the prospects of the national reconciliation process in Afghanistan," he said.
