DONETSK. Oct 27 (Interfax) - A meeting of the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine did not produce significant results, Natalya Nikonorova, acting foreign minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), said.
"Another meeting of the political subgroup, unfortunately, did not culminate in any significant progress: Ukrainian representatives continue to evade constructive dialogue," Nikonorova said in an official statement.
Ukraine explains its refusal to discuss the political agenda's main provision, the procedure of entry into force of the Donbas special status law, by saying that that the Steinmeier formula is a part of the road map, on which work in the Normandy format is being conducted, she said.
"Such an argument is, to put it mildly, confusing, because all political issues are included in the road map. Therefore, Ukrainian representatives are almost directly suggesting blocking the negotiating process in Minsk and forgoing implementation of the provisions of the Minsk Package because their implementation should be carried out in consultations and upon approval with, first and foremost the [self-proclaimed Donbas] Republics," the acting foreign minister said.
This position of Kyiv shows "Ukraine's open reluctance to discuss options in resolving disagreements, which negates the efforts of the Normandy format leaders, who had twice agreed on a compromise option of exiting the crisis created by Kyiv," she said.
