Russian Foreign Ministry sees high risk of terrorists using chemical weapons outside Middle East

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry sees risks of the use of chemical weapons by terrorists outside the Middle Eastern region, including in Afghanistan, and even in Russia and Europe.

"According to our estimations, the risk is high that chemical crimes will go beyond the borders of Syria, Iraq, to the entire Middle East region and even beyond it," Russian Foreign Ministry Nonproliferation and Arms Control Department Director Mikhail Ulyanov said.

"Such incidents may start happening in Afghanistan, in Russia and in Western Europe, because terrorists have acquired the knowledge necessary for production of chemical weapons, and in some cases even [the necessary] industrial capacities," he said.
