BANGKOK. Nov 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is in talks with Vietnam over the possibility of supplying air-defense missile systems, but which systems in particular has not yet been determined, Mikhail Petukhov, deputy director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), told Interfax on the sidelines of the Defense and Security exhibition in Bangkok.
"Dialogue is ongoing with the Vietnamese side on issues concerning supplies, repairs, and modernization of the air-defense missile systems and complexes of various types," Petukhov said when asked whether Vietnam is interested in acquiring S-400 surface-to-air missile systems.
"The sides are now determining a list of items on which cooperation will be conducted," he said.
It was reported earlier that Vietnam had purchased several battalion sets of S-300PMU1 air-defense missile systems, 32 Su-30MK2 fighter jets, 12 Molnia missile carrying boats (of which two will be delivered directly and ten will be produced under license), four Gepard-type frigates, six Project 636 Varshavyanka (Kilo by NATO classification) submarines, a Bastion movable coastal missile system equipped with Yakhont unified supersonic self-guided anti-ship missiles, Igla air-defense missile systems, and other weapons from Russia.
