MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Many countries gloss over the actual situation in Ukraine, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.
"The processes that are happening in Ukraine, they, first and foremost, demand genuinely unbiased discussion. Many countries gloss over the situation in Ukraine," Volodin said at a meeting with the French government's Special Representative for Relations with Russia Jean-Pierre Chevenement in Moscow on Tuesday.
The French politician brought up the subject of Ukraine, saying that it is currently important to "focus on Ukraine" and that the country "should become a bridge between Europe and Russia." "This foolish conflict must not continue on," Chevenement said.
Ukraine is a fraternal country for Russia and Russia is concerned about the events happening there, Volodin said.
"At the same time, we must point out that coup d'etat, and one cannot otherwise describe the events of the time, when the popularly elected Ukrainian president was not just effectively forced out of the country, but also faced threats to his safety, resulted in extremist forces assuming office in the country," he said.
