Nauru to facilitate recognition of Abkhazia's independence by other Pacific countries - President Waqa

SUKHUM. Nov 13 (Interfax) - The president of Nauru, Baron Waqa, intends to lobby Abkhazia's interests, including on the question of its independence recognition by other countries.

He made this statement at a meeting with Abkhaz President Raul Khadjimba in Sukhum on Sunday.

"You may fully count on us as a reliable partner, as a party that will stand by you. In future we intend to lobby your interests and lobby the recognition of Abkhazia by other countries in the Pacific region," Waqa said.

"We expect nothing from you but your friendship. This is very dear to us, that is our sincere attitude towards you," he said

"I am certain the fight against all current challenges facing us now will lead to an improvement in our relations and further opportunities for us all to get involved in global issues such as, for instance, the global climate change. This is a very acute issue for us. I believe that for you, too, it is a serious topic. And I am certain that tackling these problems together would lead to a better future," Waqa said.

"I want to see Abkhazia prospering, as our best friend in this part of the world," the Nauruan leader said.
