Almost 50% of Russia's military-technical contracts go to Middle East, North Africa - Shugayev

DUBAI (UAE). Nov 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Contracts with countries of the Middle East and North Africa constitute nearly half of Russia's book of arms-export orders, the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Dmitry Shugayev, told reporters at Dubai Airshow.

"This region, the Middle East and North Africa, occupies a rather large place in our cooperation, and almost 50% of our book of orders goes to it," Shugayev said.

"We have very positive feelings about this dynamic; we realize that the region is developing, and we cannot leave it out of sight," he said.

Shugayev hopes for the further development of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates.

"We have received a rather warm and amicable welcome here. The interest in our exposition is keen, and our business program is packed. I think that our work will continue in about the same manner," Shugayev said.

In late August, Shugayev said that Russia's overall book of orders for exports of arms and military hardware stood at $47 billion to $50 billion.
