Self-proclaimed Donbas republics will agree to peacekeepers' presence only along contact line

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) oppose the idea of deploying United Nations peacekeepers throughout the republics' territories rather than only along the line of contact with the Ukrainian government forces.

Luhansk would only support the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission strictly in line with a Russian draft resolution and only along the contact line, LPR envoy Vladislav Deinego told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Of course the mission's deployment throughout the entire territory is out of the question, this is unacceptable. Only the contact line, and the mandate should stipulate only protection of the OSCE [monitoring] mission," Deinego said.

The DPR Council of Ministers also dismissed the idea of deploying part of the peacekeepers under the aegis of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

"The U.S. has proposed deploying some peacekeepers under the OSCE flag, which is impossible in principle. The OSCE structure doesn't envision armed and police missions," a DPR Council of Ministers source said.
