MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin, self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) leader Alexander Zakharchenko and self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) head Igor Plotnitsky discussed a possible exchange of captives between Ukraine and the self-proclaimed republics in a recent phone call, the Kremlin said on its website on Wednesday.
The DPR and LPR leaders supported such an initiative and said that this issue should be further explored with the Ukrainian side, it said.
"The parties discussed Ukrainian Choice-People's Right public movement leader Viktor Medvedchuk's initiative concerning an exchange of captives between Ukraine and the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. The leaders of the DPR and the LPR supported this initiative, noting that this issue has yet to be additionally looked into together with the Ukrainian side," the Kremlin said after the telephone conversation.
When visiting the New Jerusalem Monastery of Resurrection, located in the Moscow region, on Wednesday, Medvedchuk asked the Russian president to back his proposal on an exchange of captives between Ukraine and the self-proclaimed republics.
