Russia should rely on Turkey, Iran rather than on U.S. in promoting Syria settlement - senator Klintsevich

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The United States will only intensify its anti-Russian steps amid Russia's successes in Syria, and therefore Moscow should rely only on Tehran and Ankara in promoting the settlement process in Syria, Russian Federation Council Defense and Security Committee head Franz Klintsevich said.

"The U.S.' refusal to conduct airstrikes on terrorists leaving Syria's Abu Kamal and its shameful carousel around the investigation into the chemical weapons use in Syria show unambiguously that it is not going to adjust its policy in the Middle East. Moreover, its open anti-Russian slant will only be increasing amid our successes in Syria," Klintsevich's press service quoted him as saying.

"The joint statement on Syria adopted based on the outcomes of the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the U.S. on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam is apparently just a sheet of paper that means nothing to the Americans," he said.

"It's absolutely clear that, in promoting the peace settlement process in Syria, Russia can rely only on the Russia-Iran-Turkey triangle, but above all on itself, and this process will be extremely difficult," he said.
