Kazakh FM and UK foreign secretary discuss Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine

ASTANA. Nov 21 (Interfax) - Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov and UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson chaired the latest meeting of the two countries' Strategic Dialogue in London, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's press service said on Tuesday.

"Abdrakhmanov and Johnson discussed key issues on the global agenda, including the priorities of Kazakhstan's UN Security Council presidency in January, the Astana process on Syrian settlement, the situation in Afghanistan, issues concerning the implementation of the Minsk Agreements for Ukraine, the fight against terrorism, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, regional cooperation in Central Asia, and other topics," it said.

Kazakhstan will become the first Central Asian country to preside over the UN Security Council, Johnson said, expressing hope for further cooperation in global security issues.

During the meeting, the sides gave special attention to bilateral contacts at the highest level, the press service said.

"Johnson underscored Kazakhstan's great importance for the UK and reiterated London's firm intention to bolster comprehensive cooperation with Astana," it said.
