ASTANA. Nov 27 (Interfax) - State Duma Vice-Speaker Sergei Neverov has said he expects Kazakhstan to carry on the development of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) when it chairs the CSTO.
"We appreciate Kazakhstan's active role and interest in the CSTO. In the next few days, Kazakhstan will become the organization's chair country. Hopefully, this chairmanship will continue the energetic efforts to develop the CSTO and boost its capacity to counter traditional and new threats and challenges," Neverov said at an international parliamentary conference in Astana on Monday.
The digital economy's evolution makes CSTO member countries think about their information security and ways to counter terrorist, extremist, and criminal uses of information and communication technology, he said.
"That such measures are necessary is proven by the cyber-attacks recently experienced by over 100 countries in the world. Hence, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly's approval of a universal legal instrument to counter the unlawful use of information and communication technology has special significance," Neverov said.
