Nazarbayev to spell out priorities of CSTO Kazakh chairmanship in Minsk

ASTANA. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will spell out the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the upcoming session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Minsk.

The session will take place on November 30.

"Given that Kazakhstan will be chairing the CSTO in 2017-2018, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will present the priorities of the Kazakh chairmanship for the next inter-session period at the CSTO Collective Security Council's meeting," the CSTO website said in a statement on Tuesday.

Other items on the agenda are global trends, ways to bolster collective security, a declaration regarding the CSTO jubilee, and a number of political statements by heads of state on pressing international security matters.

A draft plan of the CSTO collective security strategy's implementation in the period through 2025 will be submitted to the presidents for consideration.

"CSTO Secretary General Yury Khachaturov will deliver a yearly report on CSTO activity in 2016-2017 and implementation of decisions made at the previous session of the CSTO Collective Security Council," the statement said.

The sides will address further improvement of the CSTO military component, the structure of the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Staff, Joint Staff position quotas, and the 2018 CSTO budget.

There are plans to sign documents on cooperation in information security, more efficient suppression of illegal immigration, the CSTO emblem and flag, and the heraldic emblem of the collective security forces.

In all, the CSTO Collective Security Council will have over 20 items on the agenda, the statement said.
