U.S. Javelin missile system supplies to Georgia to push Tbilisi towards new adventures in region - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The United States' plans to supply Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Georgia and construction of a new military training center will push Tbilisi towards new dangerous adventures, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Russia sees this sort of outside military support as directly pushing Tbilisi towards new dangerous adventures in the region," the ministry said in a statement published on its website after a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on South Caucasus.

"The Russian side re-iterated the danger of Tbilisi's deepening military cooperation with NATO member states. Recently the State Department and the Pentagon approved a delivery of Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Tbilisi. This is the first U.S. military deal with Georgia of this scale since 2008. Concurrently, Washington re-purposed its training program for Georgian peacekeepers into regular army training. Georgia is planning to build one more military center on its territory with U.S. assistance," the ministry said.
