Ukrainian FM urges gradual establishment of int'l control over Donbas

KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Ukraine and the United States are closely coordinating their steps to maintain pressure on Russia to ensure the gradual establishment of international control over Donbas, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.

"We have prepared our common vision. [U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt] Volker and I have been in contact on virtually a daily basis," Klimkin said. "Kurt will continue these negotiations," he told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"He is planning another meeting for the near future. We are maintaining close coordination and will be consistently putting pressure, but what's most important to us is to make sure that Donbas is gradually put under international control, which together with us would ensure security and start preparations for elections. Any other scenarios would lead to the preservation of a Russian protectorate there," he said.

In some parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, there are no representatives "who have their own opinion" or make any decisions, Klimkin said.
