Russia, U.S. in close contact on N. Korea - Lavrov

ROME. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Moscow is "in very close contact with U.S. representatives dealing with the Korean Peninsula," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, noting that meetings were held in Moscow and other venues.

"We assumed that Washington understands the need to refrain from escalating tensions and retaliating with such large-scale military actions to the situation demanding a much more balanced response," the Russian foreign minister said at a press conference in Rome.
