Russian Foreign Ministry expects upcoming OSCE Council of FMs to promote restoration of trust in relations with West

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Moscow expects contacts and discussions during a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) member states due in Vienna on December 7-8 to facilitate the de-escalation of tensions in the relationship with the West.

"First of all, we view the Council of Foreign Ministers as a platform for the dialogue and restoration of trust that is extremely important in the current confrontational situation in European security," Russian Foreign Ministry's European Cooperation Department Director Andrei Kelin said in an interview with Interfax.

"Direct contacts and interactive discussion are important between the ministers of the CSTO, EAEU, NATO and European Union countries, most of which are planning to attend a meeting in Vienna. We expect this dialogue to promote the de-escalation of tensions in the relations," the high-ranking diplomat said.

"During the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting we will promote Russian priorities, which include the tasks of the fight against terrorism and drugs, cooperation in the sphere of cyber security, the linking of integration processes in eastern and western Eurasia, and the protection of traditional values. Of course, we will draw attention to breaches of language and educational rights and the freedom of the media, and neo-Nazi tendencies in Ukraine and western countries," Kelin said.

"Russia has submitted three draft decisions with the Council of Foreign Ministers, namely, those related to the fight against terrorist ideology and propaganda, OSCE humanitarian dimension reform and the linking of integration processes as co-authors with EAEU partners," he said. "At the same time, we are open for work on other drafts of the documents, which already number about 30," he said.
