Russian Defense Ministry confirms military police battalion airlifted from Syria to Makhachkala by 2 flights

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax-AVN) - A military police battalion of the Southern Military District was airlifted from Syria to Makhachkala Airport by two flights of military transport aircraft on Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement seen by Interfax-AVN.

"Servicemen of this battalion have been controlling the ceasefire implementation in the de-escalation areas since May 2017. They have also been providing security of the civilian population in humanitarian operations and escorting humanitarian convoys," the ministry said.

The Rossiya 24 television channel (VGTRK) said earlier that two planes had airlifted Russian servicemen from Syria to Dagestan. The channel said the military police returned to Makhachkala.
