MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The construction of a Borei-B nuclear-powered strategic submarine is envisioned in the government's 2018-2027 armament program, Russian Navy Commander-in-chief Vladimir Korolyov said.
"The main areas of Navy development [under the program] will be: to maintain our naval strategic nuclear forces' combat potential at the set level by building Borei-A and Borei-B class missile submarines and to develop general naval forces' combat potential by building ships for the oceanic, distant, and near maritime zones," Korolyov said at a joint meeting of the Navy's central command and a Coordination Council of veterans' organizations.
Efforts will continue to upgrade ships, deliver modern aircraft for naval aviation and missile systems for the Navy's coastal-defense troops, and to develop groups of ships armed with precision weapons, he said.
"Also under the state armament program, the navy will continue receiving new and upgraded ships for the distant maritime and oceanic zones. The most produced ship in this segment will be the upgraded frigate of Project 22350m armed with precision weaponry," Korolyov said.
