MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Moscow believes NATO has still not mapped out the strategy of its actions in Afghanistan, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said.
"The alliance doesn't have a strategy and has never had one. There is the impression that someone benefits from maintaining controllable chaos here, as well," Syromolotov said in an interview with Interfax.
"Does this really mean someone else also has to fight terrorists for them in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan?" he said.
Moscow is aware of the threat of ISIL [banned in Russia], "especially in the northern part of the country, along the borders with the Central Asian republics," he said.
"However, what worries us considerably more is that the entire terrorist potential in Afghanistan, which is quite 'motley' now, has in general been steadily growing over the 16-year period that NATO and its allies have had a military presence there," Syromolotov said.
