MOSCOW. Dec 14 (INTERFAX-AVN) - The Western Military District's military transport aviation arm has received two Antonov An-148-100E 'Angara' aircraft, district spokesman Col. Igor Muginov told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"Two An-148-100E aircraft flew from the Voronezh manufacturing facility to the airfield of the Western Military District's separate mixed-aviation transport regiment based in the Leningrad region," Muginov said.
The aircraft can be used both for flying strategic and working groups of the district's command officers to any part of the district's zone of responsibility in the course of various command post exercises and drills, as well as for transporting small groups of troops, he said.
The An-148-100E 'Angara' is a narrow-body passenger plane. It can fly distances of up to 4,400 kilometers and has a 75 passenger seat capacity. The onboard radio-electronic equipment enables it to land in difficult weather and nighttime conditions.
