Georgia's mention in new U.S. nat'l security strategy important - MP

TBILISI. Dec 19 (Interfax) - The fact that Georgia is mentioned in the United States' new national security strategy is important to Georgia's security from the standpoint of the country's integration into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions, Georgian parliamentarian Irakly Sesiashvili said.

"This is very important to us, to our country's security, with the aim of preventing threats, and also from the standpoint of our country's European and Euro-Atlantic integration," Irakly Sesiashvili, the head of the parliamentary Defense and Security Committee, told journalists on Tuesday with respect to the new U.S. national security strategy released on Monday, which mentions the "invasions of Georgia and Ukraine" by Russia.

The new strategy shows that Georgia and the region as a whole have become a part of the U.S.' agenda, he said.

"The U.S. is one of the largest and the most democratic countries, whose support determines a lot, both from the standpoint of security and from the standpoint of our country's prospects," he said.
