Norwegian citizen charged with espionage files appeal with Moscow City Court seeking his release in Norwegian

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - Norwegian citizen Frode Berg, who is charged with espionage in Russia, has personally appealed his arrest by sending an appeal to court in Norwegian, Moscow Lefortosvky District Court press officer Yekaterina Krasnova told Interfax.

"The appeal was received by court in Norwegian personally from Frode Berg, nothing was received from his defense lawyers. The date when the Moscow City Court will consider it has not been determined yet," she said.

The appellate court is expected to verify the legality of the suspected spy's detention no earlier than January 2018.

The Moscow Lefortosvky District Court arrested Norwegian citizen Frode Berg until February 5 in early December. He was later charged with espionage (a crime under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code).
