MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The problem of the U.S. missile defense system deployment in Japan casts a shadow on bilateral relations between Moscow and Tokyo, and Russia has information indicating that this system will have an attack capability, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"I'll tell you bluntly: the missile defense problem casts a shadow on our relations. We've talked about this in detail with our Japanese counterparts," Lavrov said at a press conference summing up foreign political events of 2017 on Monday.
"We have information indicating that the system to be deployed in Japan is based on multipurpose launchers capable of using attack weapons," he said.
"We've heard that it's Japan that will control this system and the United States won't have any relation to it, but we have serious doubts it's really going to be so," he said.
