MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Pilots of Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters of the Southern Military District's Erebuni Airbase in Armenia have practiced intercepting aerial targets, district spokesman Col. Vadim Astafyev told Interfax on Monday.
"During the drills, pilots in pairs and flight formations practiced intercepting high-speed targets imitating planes of a mock enemy in complex piloting maneuvers," Astafyev said.
"The pilots practiced searching for those targets, simulated the launch of missiles, and forced the 'violators' to land at the Erebuni military airfield," he said.
"The drills, which involved about 50 servicemen and more than 20 pieces of military hardware and aircraft, were held in collaboration with air-defense units in the interests of a motorized infantry unit stationed at the Alagyaz highland range," Astafyev said.
