Russia to make serious efforts to preserve Iranian deal - Lavrov

NEW YORK. Jan 22 (Interfax) - The Iran deal is not dead, and Russia will try hard to preserve it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.

"With regard to whether the Iran deal is dead or not: it is not, not yet, and as far as I understand, President Trump said that by the time of next review, due in two or three months, he will already be making a final decision: either his demands are met and the deal is reformulated somehow, or he pulls out of it," Lavrov told a press conference in New York.

"Now [Russia] will be making quite serious efforts for this not to happen and for the deal to remain intact," he said.

"It will not survive in an altered form, especially as far as the U.S. demands are concerned, these will be unacceptable for Iran, that is already clear. And the Europeans, I think, are also aware of this danger," the minister said.
