CSTO to finalize creation of police contingent for UN operations in 2018 - deputy sec gen

MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will finalize the creation of a peacekeeping police contingent at the UN's request in 2018, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov told a press conference at Interfax on Thursday.

"I should say that we started forming a permanent-readiness peacekeeping police contingent at the UN's request in 2017," Semerikov said.

The project will be completed in 2018, he said.

In addition, the CSTO has been training military peacekeepers for the UN, he said.

"We do not rule out using our potential, including the military contingent, for UN missions. We have been training our peacekeepers for several years consistent with the UN standards and requirements," he said.
