Russia urges Western partners to discipline al-Nusra, or otherwise it is to be destroyed - Lavrov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Western countries should exert their influence on the Jabhat al-Nusra group in Syria (banned in Russia) to make it abandon its terrorist actions, or else it will be destroyed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on Monday.

"We are asking our Western counterparts that have leverage - they don't deny it - to influence Jabhat al-Nusra to make sure to discipline this group, which is a terrorist one, as long as we're talking about the resolution of humanitarian problems," Lavrov said.

"Otherwise, it is subject to destruction, and there can be no doubt about that," Lavrov said.

The calls for stopping the Syrian army's offensive on Jabhat al-Nusra "conceal the desire to take the heat off it once again," he said.
