Kazakh analogue of Russian ERA-GLONASS system to launch this year

ASTANA. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The Kazakh system of emergency calls in case of accidents and disasters, EVAK, an analogue of the Russian system ERA-GLONASS, will be launched by the end of this year, Kazakh Deputy Minister of Defense and the Aerospace Industry Marat Nurguzhin said in an interview with Interfax.

"As for industrial operation, yes, this system [EVAK] is currently operating in pilot mode. It will be put into industrial operation by the end of this year," Nurguzhin said.

The primary task of the EVAK system is to create conditions for reducing the fatality rate on highways by creating an efficient system of communication with emergency services about road accidents and other emergencies.

"Thanks to this system, it is planned to cut the time it takes to inform special services about road accidents so that aid will be extended to injured people within the so-called 'gold hour,' when medical aid is most efficient," Nurguzhin said.

EVAK "was created completely on the basis of the developments of the country's scientists and will operate using the signals of the global GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation systems," he said.
