Vodafone ready to participate in restoring cell service in Donbas - OSCE rep

MINSK. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Vodafone Ukraine is ready to participate in solving problems with the mobile communication service in the self-proclaimed republics of Donbas, Martin Sajdik, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG), said on Wednesday.

"A Vodafone Ukraine representative attended the meeting at the TCG's invitation. He reassured [the group] that the company was ready to participate in solving problems with providing mobile communications in the breakaway areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Sajdik told journalists in Minsk on Wednesday.

To that end the parties agreed to cooperate with the mediation by the TCG and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, in particular to repair the cable in the Donetsk region, he said.

"I am urging the parties to make every effort for swift restoration and provision of smooth mobile communications so much needed for the population," Sajdik said.
