MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Russia has hypersonic weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his annual address to the Federal Assembly on Thursday.
"Russia has such weapons," he said.
"Possessing such weapons certainly gives serious advantages in the sphere of armed combat. As military experts say, the power and might [of such weapons] can be enormous, and will soon make them invulnerable to today's missile and air defense systems, as interceptor missiles will simply be unable to catch up with them," Putin said.
The creation of a precision-guided hypersonic airborne missile system is an important stage in Russia's efforts to develop advanced weapons systems, he said.
