MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Achieving a durable peace in Syria requires all sides fighting in the country to lay down arms, Konstantin Kosachyov, the head of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, said.
"No doubt, for the truce in Syria to last, it must be supported by all countries fighting on that country's territory," Kosachyov told Interfax on Thursday.
Asked whether that means that Russia is expecting also Turkey to cease fire, Kosachyov said, "Turkey for us is a very important strategic partner, and we are, of course, holding talks with the leadership of this country."
"I can say that they [Turkey] understand us," Kosachyov said.
At the same time, he reiterated that for the durable peace "not to fall to pieces," there should be a total ceasefire everywhere in Syria.
