Russian military escort UN humanitarian convoy to Afrin

SYRIA. March 2 (Interfax-AVN) - A UN humanitarian convoy has delivered about 160 tonnes of food in Afrin in northern Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The safe passage of a UN humanitarian convoy to Afrin in the Aleppo province has been ensured, and the local population has received 159 tonnes of food and essential goods," the ministry said.

The Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria conducted a humanitarian operation in Mesmiyah in the Daraa province over the day. The locals received 1.9 tonnes of food, and 96 civilians were given medical assistance.

Eighteen ceasefire agreements were signed in the provinces of Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, and Homs over the day. The number of populated localities engaged in the reconciliation process has thus grown to 2,426.
