Slutsky urges U.S. not to meddle in N.Korea-S.Korea direct dialogue, give them chance to reach agreement

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - A direct dialogue and possible agreements between Seoul and Pyongyang should be unconditionally supported and welcomed, and no third parties should meddle in these negotiations, Russian State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee head Leonid Slutsky said.

"Most importantly, no actors should meddle in the negotiations from the outside, least of all the United States, and no one should resort to provocations against the DPRK. The parties should ultimately be given a chance to reach agreement," Slutsky told journalists on Tuesday.

Such negotiations are a way that could ultimately bring about a detente on the Korean Peninsula, he said.

"Russia has always favored a dialogue, because we don't see a military solution to the North Korea problem," he said.
