London's suspicions about ex-GRU officer poisoning contrived - Duma committee head

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - The British suspicions about Russia's involvement in the poisoning in Salisbury are contrived, sports must be separate from politics, according to Mikhail Degtyaryov, head of the Duma Committee on Physical Education, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs.

"In this particular instance, the accusations against the Russian side were made up," Degtyaryov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Sports must be separate from politics," he said.

One might expect further disinformation relating to Russia's hosting of the FIFA world cup, he said.

Earlier on Tuesday British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said that if the Russian trail was proven in the poisoning of the former military intelligence colonel Sergei Skripal, Britain could review the level of its representation at this year's FIFA world cup in Russia. The British Foreign Office explained later that Johnson had been talking about political representation.
