Southern Military District commander arrives in Crimea for combat readiness inspection

ROSTOV-ON-DON. March 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The commander of the Southern Military District, Alexander Dvornikov, will assess the organization of Black Sea Fleet coastal drills at training sites, the district's press service told Interfax.

"The ability to make unconventional decisions, use combat experience, organize inter-service cohesion on a tactical level - all this will be assessed during the working tour of the units and formations training in Crimea," the commander was quoted as saying.

Dvornikov will also assess the skills of Air Force and Air Defense troops training on the peninsula, the press service said.

Airborne Troops and an air assault battalion from Novorossiysk are holding a tactical exercise at the Opuk training base in Crimea, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The exercise involves over 300 troops and around 50 pieces of wheeled and special hardware.
