MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that U.S. plans of strikes against Syria will not be implemented, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"New provocations involving chemical weapons are being plotted and will be staged in Eastern Ghouta, amongst other places, they will draw the global community's attention, as usual, in a highly emotional manner, to the suffering of civilians and casualties among innocent citizens," Lavrov told a press conference following negotiations with his Turkish counterpart.
They are planning to use it as a pretext for the use of force by the U.S.-led coalition, including against the Syrian capital. "We strongly cautioned the United States yesterday via all channels. I hope these irresponsible plans will not be implemented," the minister said.
"In any case, it shows that the policy of creating any pretext for overthrowing the regime remains on the agenda in the United States, it is not without reason that they are saying that all options remain on the table," Lavrov said.
"It will be a violation of all thinkable norms of international law, resolution 2254 and, essentially, the solemn vows made by Washington," Lavrov said.
