U.S.-N. Korea summit accords are de facto implementation of Russian-Chinese roadmap for K. Peninsula - Morgulov

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - The agreements on holding a summit between North Korea and South Korea and a summit between North Korea and the United States effectively mean the implementation of a Russian-Chinese settlement plan, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said.

"In effect, it is possible to speak about the implementation of a settlement roadmap for the Korean Peninsula proposed by Russia and China," Morgulov told Interfax on Thursday.

The first stage of this roadmap "envisages a 'freeze-for-freeze' plan - the DPRK's [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] refrain from holding new missile and nuclear tests and a downscaling of American-South Korean military exercises," he said.

"The second stage envisages the start of direct inter-Korean talks and a dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang. So, the first phases of our plan are de facto being put into practice, whether someone likes it or not. It is important to build upon this encouraging tendency," Morgulov said.
