U.S. position on Skripal poisoning is manifestation of Russophobia - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - The United States' position on the incident in the British town of Salisbury, where former Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) officer Sergei Skripal was poisoned, is a manifestation of Russophobia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"It is very easy for people who take part in such propagandist shows to work, because they do not need to verify facts, they do not need data, they do not need to understand what information you're operating with. In principle, they do not need anything at all. The only thing they need to do is simply follow one path, the path of Russophobia," Zakharova told reporters at a press briefing on Thursday.

The stance of a country and its representative to international organizations should be backed by facts in order to be substantiated and clear, she said.

"Did anyone provide any information to them? If it was provided, aren't you keeping it a secret? But we understand that obviously no one passed anything to them. What grounds do they have to make such allegations [about Russia's involvement in Skripal's poisoning]?," she said.

"No one has provided anything" - neither samples nor specimens - to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Zakharova said.

"How can you express solidarity with something you know nothing about? You don't have concrete basic data," she said.

"Anyone can just come and support [UK Prime Minister] Theresa May. It has nothing to do with facts, knowledge, or investigation. Rather, it is a matter of ideological support. That's all there is to it. This ideological support is what is showing here. This has nothing to do with the investigation, because the United Kingdom has not provided any data to anyone," Zakharova said.
