KYIV. March 15 (Interfax) - The Verkhovna Rada has expelled independent deputy Nadiya Savchenko from the parliament's committee on national security and defense.
This decision was supported by 261 MPs at the plenary session on Thursday, an Interfax correspondent reported.
A relevant draft resolution was initiated by members of the committee in December 2016.
The explanatory note attached to the document says that Savchenko has met with the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics and participates in sessions of the committee where state secrets are discussed.
"In order to prevent the disclosure of information constituting state secrets and bearing in mind that a committee member has to participate in meetings where issues related to state secrets are addressed, it is necessary to adopt this decision in the near future," the explanatory note said.
