Savchenko fears Maidan shooting will never be investigated

KYIV. March 15 (Interfax) - Ukrainian independent deputy Nadiya Savchenko said she believes that the criminal cases involving the shooting on Kyiv's Maidan will not be resolved, as high-ranking officials, including in the Verkhovna Rada, are preventing an investigation.

"The Maidan shooting - and the fact that it's the fifth year now that people have been waiting for the investigation - will never be investigated," Savchenko told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

Serhiy Gorbatyuk, the head of the special investigations department of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, is being prevented from working, she said. "I personally testified to him that [Ukrainian Prosecutor General] Lutsenko called from the tribune for the administration to be overthrown and he promised the people that there would be weapons on the Maidan," Savchenko said.

According to Savchenko, she said in her testimony about the Maidan events that "a blue minibus came and brought people with weapons [...] these people are in the parliament."

"I saw [Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy] Parubiy lead snipers into the hotel Ukraine [...] The people who issued orders, who committed crimes and who bear responsibility, will always be looking for someone to blame," she said.
