Dodon: No one will drive wedge between Russia and Moldova

CHISINAU. April 6 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon said he is confident that relations between his country and Russia will develop steadily.

"Relations between our countries and peoples have a far longer history. We share the Orthodox faith, a centuries-long common history, and years of joint struggle and creation," Dodon said in a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Russia.

"We jointly countered the expansion of aggressive powers [...] We defeated fascism in the Great Patriot War through our joint efforts. And the Moldovan people will never forget all the good things Russia has done and continues to do for us," Dodon said.

Regrettably, relations between Moldova and Russia are going through a difficult period, he said.

"Certain forces inside and outside our country would like to sever the good relations between Moldova and Russia. I am convinced that common sense will prevail, and no one will be able to drive a wedge between our peoples. There is still a great deal of work for us to do along the path of joint cooperation and creation. I believe that our states have not only a glorious past, but will also have a worthy future," Dodon said.
