TEHRAN. April 9 (Interfax) - State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has said he hopes that common sense will prevail and that the United States stays committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.
Volodin arrived in Tehran on Monday for an official visit. He will meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament speaker Ali Larijani, and will open a plenary session of the Russian-Iranian business forum.
"It would be a wrong decision for America to take," Volodin told Iranian television in an interview in response to the question about the stance of Washington and the consequences of its possible withdrawal from the JCPOA.
"What is more, this decision will affect many countries. I hope that common sense will prevail and the United States will not do that," Volodin said.
The interviewer asked Volodin whether the deal would stay in effect in case of Washington's withdrawal and the ongoing commitment of other parties.
"All countries want this deal to stay valid," Volodin said.
