Int'l terrorist recruiter detained in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. April 19 (Interfax) - An international terrorist recruiter who sent four Kyrgyz citizens to Syria has been detained in Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kyrgyz National Security Committee told Interfax on Thursday.

The committee detained the recruiter while working to expose and stop the country's penetration by members of international terrorist organizations tasked with recruiting Kyrgyz citizens, the press service said.

"The detained citizen of Kyrgyzstan, born in 1982, recruited four citizens of the republic and sent them to Syria in 2015 on the orders of terrorist ringleaders," it said.

For the past few years, the detainee had been conducting propaganda and recruiting for units operating in Syria in a country neighboring Kyrgyzstan, the press service said.

"A criminal case was opened on counts of mercenary practices, and the detainee was put in a detention facility of the National Security Committee," it said.
