Syrian crisis cannot be settled without Damascus, Moscow - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - Proposals to discuss the Syrian crisis settlement and humanitarian issues without Damascus and Moscow are hopeless, Moscow says.

"How can Syria's problems be solved without the involvement of Syria's legitimate government? I can hardly imagine it," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters on Friday.

It would be pointless to discuss the country's humanitarian issues and reconstruction "without our involvement and, most importantly, without the involvement of Syrians themselves," he said. "Sometimes they don't invite us, it's a fact, but we are always ready to work with everyone," Bogdanov said.

Germany and France earlier called for the creation of a negotiating format on Syria, saying Astana, Sochi and Geneva proved not quite efficient venues.

Bogdanov said: "Let them offer what will justify itself. We shall see."
